Cool! At least you found one (I never have)! 2 questions, and three things to look for: Where'd you find it? Could you post a picture? and -Check the reverse for the raised ground (if the buffalo is on raised ground, it is a 1913). -Check below FIVE CENTS for a mintmark. -If it has the mintmark D, check the buffalo's front right leg. If it is missing, it is a 1937-D Three-Legged Buffalo Nickel (odds of finding one are horrible). Cool Find!!!
ya, i have pics to upload but they are to big to load. so i gotta fix them. I went and got rolls from the bank and dug through them. If you have the Official Red Book 2011 edition, go to page 130, the buffalo is standing on that kind of ground. but he has all 4 legs. No mint mark also. I think it is a 1918. you cant see it in any pics, but i can see an 8
I just bought 16 buffalo nickels at an auction for $2 a couple of weeks ago 1916-1917-1918-1928-1920-1924-1936-1923-1925-1926-1927-1929-1935. And 6 indian head pennies for $1 1888-1890-1898-1904-1906-1907. And some wheat pennies. Didn't think that was a bad price. Filled some holes in the collections. If you really wanna know the date, you can buy some Nic-a-Date and use that to reveal it... that is, however, considered damaging the coin and will make it practically worthless. Key date coins discovered via Nic-a-Date command about 10% of their usual price for the grade.
