I am thinking about expanding up to quarters. I think I can get most of the quarters from 1945-1964 around 50 to start. These ones seem pretty reasonable, then work down from there. The prices seem to range from 2.50 to 5.00 in EF condition from dealers online. I have a person who has e-mailed me (locally) that has a large selection. You see I am a cent guy and I am blaming everyone here and this forum for even thinking about expanding to other coins. Just some advice on quarters would help. I know this site is going to cost me. Thanks in advance Randy
OK - here's my advice - pick another coin Seriously, I say that because I have a harder time trying to grade a Washington quarter than I do just about any other coin. Maybe it's just me, but I think they're tough to grade. And if I can't grade it well - then I don't collect the coin. Now that may not seem like a good reason to some, but it always did to me. And it wasn't for lack of trying on my part. But hey, collect what you like - that's what it's all about. And just because I can't grade the dang things worth a hoot - that doesn't mean you can't
Hi, I agree! Unless you can see a Washington Quarter , in person, before you buy it, I would stay clear, Too many whizzed, cleaned and overgraded pieces out there. Have Fun, Bill
If your going to do a set I would suggest starting at 1932..I did and its great when its done!!!...get the keys first....1932-d and S... Speedy
My suggestion is if you want a coin that is easy to collect, the Washington Quarter is for you. I collect almost all coins and even though I do have collections of Jefferson Nickels, Roosevelt Dimes and Washington Quarters, I think they all are basically worthless. Not actually worthless but they have little to no resale value at coin shows. None are for investments that's for sure. All three are easily collected by just going to banks and buying large quantities and returning the unwanted coins. Acquire from one bank and take back to another. I use a Whitman Classic Album with added on pages for the quarters and they contain all from 32 to 98. I acquired all from the banks over many years of just getting quantities and looking though them all.
Well, you see I am stuck in a rut in collecting. I have cents, nickels, dimes and need only the really expensive ones to complete those sets. I was thinking about starting quarters but was unaware of the problem with grading those coins. It is ok I will buy with caution and thanks for the info. One of the first threads I read here was about coin collecting as a hobby, not an investment. It really put a different view on collecting in general with me. Unfortunatly I have this saying that goes like this "People say I collect alot of stuff and I tell them because their is alot of stuff to collect" Randy
Its funny that you say that but it is obvious why that coin is hard to grade. it just doesn't have any strong features. I hate that coin. the Washington Bust has bald hair. Ruben
Carl I don't think the Washinton are worthless....in the last 5 years I have seen the keys (1932-S-D) double...in fact...more than double in price... Speedy
