    Hi guys,
was going through my dad's coins with him last night and stumbled across this. I don't understand how it got there... when I showed my dad he said, 'oh that's just one of those arcade tokens...' then pointed to a pile of random chuckee cheese coins (that looked nothing like the brilliant uncirculated buffalo I was holding, lol). Then my dad was like, 'isn't it...?'

Anyway - I don't have access to a great camera, but here are some pics from phone. There isn't one mark or spec of dirt anywhere on any part of this coin. There is zero scratching or wearing down of any of the font. It looks as if it were pulled from a proof.

I know these things aren't valuable since they're available by the pound on eBay, but thought maybe if I sent it in to have it graded it'd be worth something ?

    Anyway know?

Oh... it's never been cleaned. It's all the color of a brand new nickel, uniform color through whole piece. Wish I had a better camera :(

It´s a nice looking coin but with those pictures I can see a ding on the rim at the 3 and 9 oclock on the reverse so no MS70. Could get a hight grade but it´s very hard to say with the pictures.

Im gonna try and grab a good camera today. There isn't a ding on this thing but those pictures make it look handled. I just don't understand where it came from.

Do you know what the highest grades of this coin sell for? Hes not the infamous D-mint with 3 legs. He's P mint, and normal.

This may help Pcgs has the most resent graded grades of Buffalo Nickles. about MS-68 & PR-68 is the highest grade so far

Hmm.. thanks for that. Mine appears to be in better condition than the 68 they graded. Ill get a better pic for you guys.

In the meantime, I suppose I should mail this in. No clue how, but I'll go check out their site. Thanks!

You can definitely rule out MS70. MS68 requires FULL STRIKE which is not what your coin has. I see wear on the buffalo for sure all over the chest and legs, but we need bigger pictures.

Handling the coin really doesn't help the grade either...

Maybe you need something to compare your nickel to. This is a photo of an NGC MS67 1936 Buffalo Nickel.

Try to ignore the toning and compare the two coins.

Lehigh...that 1936 nickel looks so darn good, it makes me want to roll over and have a cigarette....very impressive.

O.P. That is a nice looking buffalo from what i can tell in your pics. It does not, however look to be fully struck. If we had better pictures to work with we could help you out. PCGS has a photo grade feature on their website that could help you determine the grade. I would not get too worked up over it though, because Buffalo's are fairly common in GEM for that date. Many many rolls were saved as coin collecting was very popular when they were issued.

Hi guys - still haven't had a chance to head to my parents to use their nice camera.

heres a better shot of the buffalo taken with my phone. . . buff1.jpg

Definitely not MS70 worthy. I think I can see the wear better now.

Try taking a photo of the obverse and reverse taken straight on rather than at an angle. That way we will be able to see the details better (assuming the photos are properly focused and the coin is illuminated properly).

ok. the only issue Im having is the camera.. its my phone. So any wear on the faces of the coin , in my opinion, is just where my camera isn't focused enough and blurs the photo a bit.

    Ill try some more.

Anything that looks like a scratch/ding, discoloration and whatnot are spots where my camera isn't focusing the white balance - just because it's a crappy 5 mp phone cam apparently. lol. ill take pics with my parents 12 mp Minolta this wknd. There are no scratches or dings on the coin.

Used different white balances because I'm in a poorly lit apartment.

    Here

Just as a rule of thumb, I don't think there's a single older series MS70.

It is a nice coin, but considering PCGS has none graded over MS67 for that date makes me believe the chances of it grading batter are near impossible, especially if it's been sitting unprotected for all those years.

I agree, I wish i had one like that, but there does still appear to be slight wear on the higher points of the coin.
