Whats up everyone! I just wanted to see if anyone else is finding silver at face value. Okay, here is my stats for the last month: Out of 140.00 in Nickels(70 rolls) I found 14 wartime nickels! Out of 100.00 in Quarters(10 rolls) I found 2 1964 quarters! Out of 350.00 in Halves(35 rolls) I found 2 40% Kennedy halves! That means at current spot prices $19.71 Sept 3rd 2010: I got $15.53 (.78 ounces) in Silver from my Wartime Nickels. In Quarters I got $7.13 (.36 ounces) in Silver. Halves totaled at $5.83 (.29 ounces) in Silver. Totaling $28.49 (1.43 ounces) in Silver. That I bought for $2.20! Now thats under spot. Not to mention I got a ton of Old nickels,* (2)Near full step 42' Nickels and 39' D Nickel. What have you found?
Searching rolls is fun. People search for double dies and other errors and varieties, some of which are valuable and certainly interesting. By "circulation" I thought you meant on the street in retail commerce. Aside from some nearly-US foreigns (recently a Swedish 1 krona which I took for a quarter), about two years ago, I got a proof quarter in change. You know the sound of silver when you hear it and I waited until I left the store. The coin was shiny, but no longer proof-like. The "S" Mint mark was the best evidence.
Right on fish968! Congrats! As a toll booth attendant I sporadically catch junk Silver coins. Today's catch is an Alaska state proof 90% Silver. However, I'm still beaming over a Wisconsin quarter with a low leaf die gouge error I caught on 10/8/10. That makes six low leaf and one high leaf. The search continues...
my mom (who works at the casino's in vegas) still finds pre 1964 silver....this year she has found 147 halves, dimes and quarters...so they're out there and im the one reaping the benefits hehe
Nice finds! I've been going to liquor stores and asking if they have any old money or big coins, I got a 40%half , 90%half and a gold plated bicentennial quarter and half last week! I guess some people will turn in any change to catch a buzz lol.
That's a good idea. I've had some luck at thrift stores but I'm betting people would be more desparate for liquor!
Another liquor store find. I got a 40 % half(1966) today, it's always fun finding silver in circulation.
Amazingly, I got a 1964 dime in change at the BP station in Western MA ... first silver circ find for me in about 10 years! Huzzah!
