Hello, I have a 1950 one shilling (KM#876), british coin, and it is rotated die 180º. Were all of these coins produced with rotated die 180º? Thanks.
Yes. However, until the mid C19th, UK coins were also oriented the same as US. This changed for bronze coins in 1860 when copper was substituted for bronze, and gold around the same time. I'd have to check for silver coins, but since then, die axis has been "medal" (ie, hold a coin and spin around the vertical axis and both sides remain facing up). If I recall Victorian shillings also had 0-180 orientation (at least until 1874, but no later than 1887).
I've been finding that a lot of world coins have "medal" orientation rather than "coin" orientation. Just recently getting into this realm of coins
