If anyone can let me know what the NGC population for an 1878-S Morgan MS65 is, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, what is the PCGS pop for the same coin? Thanks.
Thanks ML94539... much appreciated. Personally, I am not a big fan of IGCs other than for certain instances for authentication. The coin in question is a "proof-like" strike (although not noted on the slab). Numismedia lists it for $267 and RB for $300 (I no longer subscribe to the graysheet) but I am curious as to what others believe a fair present-market retail price to be as this is not the type of coin I usually deal in. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.
MS65 are selling for about $200 at auctions, $300 for Proof like. I dont think the previous population report is correct, if it is that low then you coin would be at least $2000 coin. Proof like is scarce, too bad price is not higher..
That is about what I assumed (price/value-wise) and I too doubt that the other pop report is even close to being correct. I picked this up for a friend since he prefers slabbed Morgans to raw. Thanks for the info.... too bad is right.
Population for NGC is 3546/519, and 3327/538 for PCGS. As of late, looks like NGC 65s go for around $185, and PCGS 65s are closer to $200. 65 PL population is: 193/26 for NGC, and 112/9 for PCGS. Last NGC 65 PL sold on Heritage for $255 back in June, but it wasn't much of a looker.
