I picked this off ebay recently and I was surprised at the price I paid, only 915 yen (shipped) for a 1000 yen coin. On top of the fact I paid less than the face value, the silver quantity (.925 fine at 20 grams = 18.5? grams Ag) I calculated was approximately $13.70 US. I realize these are common at over 30,000,000 being minted but still I'm surprised at the outcome. I still have no scale but it clocks in at 35mm as documented.
Congradulations, you really got it at a steal. Even at the lowest price that I've seen, it's only as low as 20+USD. I'm sure the seller wasn't really happy over it but he honored it. Even the face value of the coin is more than 10USD.
Sorry to come across as bragging, I'm sure this could be usurped very easily based on the healthy membership of this forum. I posted this simply because I was shocked that such a discount could be achieved on ebay of all places. In person at a show with a wide variety of vendors, I can see this happening and on occasion it has, but on ebay? Where the pool of potential buyers is enormous and where rarely an item goes unchecked. It was a shock... and I don't expect to repeat itself any time soon.
