I went to a different branch of my bank today and they were SO nice! They weren't busy so I asked the two ladies if they'd leaf thru the paper money. One lady pulled out a 1950 $10 bill!! (series B) I don't know if it's worth anything but it was a really fun time. I can be happy at 41
oops.... wow it was late.. it is a 1950 series B $10 bill... now that my head is clear it still amazes me this was in circ.
Do you have a scan or photo of the note (both sides) so we can help you with grade? Also what is the district? Boston, NY, Phily... Other stats on this series Series 1950B $10
Yep, great site for uploading and for knowledgeable people to help you out. As for grade, I would say that the note is a VG+ to Fine and worth about face value. Still, a nice find though!
Nice find! I got a 1934 $20 from the bank in a little better condition than that. Pretty cool. Also had a lady tip one of my baggers a crisp 1950 $5 a few weeks ago. Its amazing the stuff people will spend. Incidently, I had some customers tell me that they "just might have to spend their old money." Then they said they would show me first lol. Thats one of the reasons I tell folks I'm a collector. I carry an 1834 large cent in G, an AU '64 Kennedy, and a '42-D Mercury around to show people and try to get them interested in the stuff they already have.
Well this one has definitely been a workhorse! Still it's great to find old notes in circulation. This is Friedberg catalog number: Fr-2012D - Cleveland Federal Reserve District, Series of 1950-B (There were Series 1950, 1950-A-1950-E Series notes, each changed when the signatories changed) Your note has Signatures of Ivy Baker Priest and Robert B. Anderson, with a printage of 55,360,000. A Guide Book of United States Paper Money, Second Edition by the Friedbergs shows a 'guide book value' of $15 in EF. I'd say your note is well below that, maybe a G (good) what with all the abuse it's taken, face value.
thanks all for sharing in my excitment... you know, I'm a year into this hobby and I've had more fun goofing around with change from my bank and pocket then all the Morgans, Peace, etc. I've bought...
Same here. When i started collecting i just bought everything off ebay. I stopped buying latley and i have had so much fun looking at my change banks ect...
X2...It's nice to recycle the system through the week (ex. I take $500 and run through face value bills). When I'm done I go back to another bank and repeat the process. I usually start with $1's then back to $20's repeat the process. Nice find and thanks for sharing your experience.
I really like those old note designs. For me, they had a feeling of real value, unlike todays monopoly money.
I never knew why they "just didn't look right" ------- now I know ------- monopoly money.... how true......
Nice find Kevin! That note is certainly above face, but not much. i would think a buck or two.. maybe?
Keep on keepin' on... go to another branch today and the girl wanted NOTHING to do with looking for bills... I smiled and made my deposit...
