Hello everyone. I'm sorry I am new here so if this questions does not belong here, sorry.

I have been thinking about getting back into collecting coins. I have a farmers market that comes to my town once a week. They have a coins stand where they sell bags of 200 wheat pennies for 5 dollars. I was wondering if it would be worth time time looking through such bags? My only thing against it might be the guy has already picked out the important ones and tossed back whatever was left.

    What do you guys think?

I can guarantee you that there's probably nothing in those bags. If you want to buy wheats, Budgood, I think his name is, on here, sells bags of 5000 for $250.

    At a $1.25 a roll I'd buy as many as I could...

  5. Welcome to CT! :welcome: I am guessing that there is not much there. However, the cost is low and worth the risk. Buy a bag (or more) and see what you get...you may be pleasantly surprised. Have fun! :smile TC

It's cheap enough to give it a try. You may be able to start pluging some holes in a coin folder anyway.

Thanks all for the quick responds. Yeah i think ill buy a bag or two, I am not strap for cash at all. I have a collection of 1986-1990 of gold 1 oz eagles. As i hate to really collect coins like that. They are a great way to put money back into my pocket and start with collecting coins I am more into.

So a little update, found out i was wrong. The guy selling the coins has a shop in the other town. Anywho, i got 1000 wheat pennies from him for 40 bucks. I have already found 3 s-mint, a 1929s that is filled in, a 1946s and 1940s. Also a 1955D that as a big i guess glob of extra copper on the 9 in the date. Only through about 20 and i am happy with some of the S-mints to add to my collection.

As a note, the current melt value of a cent is $0.025. If you can by them for 2.5x face value, you should at least break even.
