Just some quick pics from my phone camera. Grade it and when I get a chance, I'll send it in to PCGS.
Nice mirrors! Pics too small to hazard a guess as to grade. If you forced me, I'd say 64 DMPL, although the obverse seems a bit questionable DMPL (looks more PL to me).
Lets make this funner. When I send this in, the person who gets it right gets this! AN INVISIBLE 1804 DOLLAR!
Well if it's for a invisible 04 dollar I'll guess it comes back a MS64 PL. 81S is very common to have a great looking coin and they already make it hard to get DMPL so with those two going against you PL is the best I can guess for the invisible 04. But G/L
Keep in mind these aren't very good pictures. I couldn't find my regular camera, soi just used a cell phone camera.
Okay, since we are playing for an invisible 1804 dollar, here is my grade estimate........_ _ _ _ _ _ Chris Had we been playing just for fun, I would have said MS64PL.
If you check through the requirements of the major TPG, there is specific reflectivity required. Such as a PL will be reflective enough to read text in the reflection at 3 inches and DMPL to read text at 6 inches in the reflection. There is also differences for specific years and mints as I recall for some. So how many inches away can you read text in the reflection?
I do wish you had better photos to post. As most know, the 1881-S was a high mintage Morgan, yet a relatively small number of coins were stuck with each die used making this a very common date for PLs and one of, if not the most plentiful/obtainable Morgan in higher grades. It is difficult to tell from the photographs, but the reverse looks to have a nice near-cameo appearance that (unfortunately) the obverse does not (although it could be the photo). As for it being a DMPL, I highly doubt this. Proof-like, yes..... but DMPL no. Beautiful example nonetheless. Personal opinion: MS63 PL An expensive submission unless the obverse DOES have the strong cameo contrast that the reverse appears to have. Good luck!!
