    A 1958 Mint "Proof" Set
I keep finding supposed Unopened sets but they want $35-40 minimum.
I aqquired a 1964 Mint Proof set for around $12 and I can't find another deal like that anywhere.

Unfortuneately anything less then $30 on any 1958 proof set is a good deal. The dealer to dealer number on those is $31. They just bring more money that year for some reason. I'm not sure if it's less mintage or just exactly why but dealer to dealer wholesale is $31.

You might also go back and read the rules about posting offers to buy or trade coins in the open forums. There are areas of the website for that.

Hope you find what you are looking for ;)

    $35 - $40 for a '58 proof set is a fair price.

You might get lucky on eBay. Sometimes something slips through, at least the things I have sold seemed to. lol But I am seeing that the most recent sales have been for $40.

AFAIK, the '58's tend to produce the most monster toners of that era of proof sets... that could be, at least partially, driving the premium.

I think you are confusing Mint Sets with Proof sets. The '58 Mint Sets are known for producing fabulous toners. The '58 Proof sets are not.

Ah right. Thank you for the correction, sir.

How would you know if they were not re-sealed and all the coins are ugly? I have heard and handled some unopened boxes and they are like 80% sealed (where one corner is not glued down)....

Is it because it's the last year of the Wheat Pennies?
    And potentially low quantities available.
I was just thinking it was the cheapest Mint Set with a wheat penny.
    Is it?

No, 1957 runs about $5 cheaper on good day
