    Would you buy this:

    For US $1,300.00???
Seems like a super rare deal. Considering the condition is this year extremely low mintage?

Do you live in Kyrgistan or Zambia? Did someone post you TDY to Little America?

I ask because most of the people on this planet can get a Red Book. WIth 4.4 million struck, this is a higher middle range, 1 million being commonly run and the 1851 nearing 10 million. Also, according to the Professional Edition (also widely available to anyone with $1300 to throw down on an old coin) a Red Brown 1850 in a reliable TPG at MS 65 is an $1100 item. Make of that what you will.

As for "if I had the money" you mean "if I had the money and had nothing better to spend it on, including leaving it in the bank on a 60-month CD." I don't collect Large Cents. If I won a megamillions superlotto, I probably would not buy this coin. It's nice and all, but not for me.

I just looked at the Numismedia price guide and it shows $1060 as the value for that one.

tlasch - you might want to go to the Heritage web site - www.ha.com - register there, and start checking prices for coins in the Auction Results Archives.

    Nice coin but no-overpriced

As others have said, the coin is a bit overpriced and a common date. FWIW, I purchased what I consider to be the nicest 65RB I've ever seen from a fellow collector for $1000 (who had purchased it from Mark Feld for a similar amount):

At $1300 the coin posted by the OP seems a bit steep. It's a lower-end RB coin (from the photo), although it does appear to warrant the 65 grade. I'd value it between $800 and $900 if I were considering the coin.

    Hope this helps...Mike

Absolutely not. It's designated "RB", but looks "BN" - that alone would cause me to avoid it. But in addition to that, the price is too high even for a deserving "RB".

I personally like the one in Leadfoot's collection. No offense to anyone, but I'd use the extra $300 to upgrade something else in my collection.

No. My advice is that before you spend that level of cash, you view the coin in hand first or, at a minimum, buy from a trusted dealer who has a good return policy.

Speaking of return policies, does this seller's policy give you warm and fuzzies?

"All stamps, coins & paper money are fully guaranteed and if not as described or photographed may be returned within 10 days for immediate refund." If you don't like the coin, there is no foundation for returning it.

I agree completely with that. If you wanted this coin, even at the high price, I think you should at least hold it in your hand before buying it. Although eBay has guarantees, I am not certain just how good they are. That seems to be a substantial sum to hand to someone you never met ? IMHO

Hmmm there was no urgent need to offend me, just curious.

BTW All I don't actually have $1300 to drop on this item, it was a question of curiosity I would never spend $1300 on just one coin. Unless it was gold :)
