First, I need to state that I don't like this seller's descriptions. I notice that his hype doesn't match the coins: i see his coins listed as XF with huge scratches, AU with tons of crud on the reverse, etc. However, I like this coin pictured. Does anyone see any issues with it - like has it been cleaned? Seller says it is 'just shy of MS', for whatever that is worth. thanks!

I'm not sure why the photos I've posted look stretched out: they are not so on the auction site. I'll just post a link to the auction - if someone wants it more than me then that's the way it is.

    so, cleaned?

The coin looks to have been lightly cleaned. But even if it didn't, I would be extremely leery of buying a coin based on images shot at that type of angle. For that matter, my comment would be the same about buying any uncertified coins on Ebay, unless from a well known/respected seller who offers a full and unconditional return privilege.

I second Marks opinion. I also see what could be a scratch across the cheek into the hair.

good call on that scratch - i didn't see that, and feel one wouldn't see it well with the particular photos.

Yep. Less-than-honest people selling coins often use angles to hide scratches and other defects. Most people want to see a shot of the coin from straight-on, so when photographing coins try to get a straight shot. Any time you see angles like this one (others are even more pronounced) be very wary!
