    Hey guys.

I have a 2004 A $10 bill. It is a star note and it has a serial number of GA00774447*. Is it worth keeping? Thanks, coinmaster1.

That all depends. What is the condition of the bill? Generally a star note from a newer date such as this one will only be worth an immediate premium if it is in Unc condition or better. Some pics would be a better way to judge as well.

    I'd grade it XF-AU.

Hmmm... there was a run of 512,000 of these, so not too rare, although more so than others of 640,000 or more. I'd say in that condition and with those production numbers, that it has a slight premium, about $12-$15 depending on the buyer.

Not sure where you got the 512,000 number, I am pretty sure this is from a run of 3.2 million. In uncirculated it would probably only bring $20 and even that may be a stretch. For comparison, I just bought a 99 $10 richmond star with a print run of 675K for $21. In circulated condition I really doubt this bill has any value over face.

That's not to say don't keep it, I have plenty of circulated star notes that I hold onto, but I know they are probably never going to be worth for then face value.

Quick update: I went back and checked, it appears the 2004a $10 GG star notes have a print of 512K, but the OP's note is from Boston (GA). I bet this is what the confusion was.

Coinmaster1: Post a scan of the note so we can judge the grade as well, both sides.

Book prices are pretty much 2x face for non-stars in this Series IF they are in Gem unc, that's guide book prices. Four districts have stars (book prices for gem unc): Boston star ($50), NY star ($110), Atlanta star ($150) and SF star ($140). These are values in US Paper Money, 2nd Edition by Friedberg.

    Stats: $10 Star Notes -or- 2004-A $10

IMO... neat sn (i think) + star note = keeper, whether it's from a big run or not. again, just my opinion.

Note seems pretty well circulated with center horizontal and center vertical folds, soft corners and edges, top margin seems a bit ragged too... But, if you like stars and that nice SN, hold onto the note. I don't think with the circulation issues that its worth that much, but I too try to keep all my stars, and this SN seems worth it for a personal collection or a place holder if you are collecting Series.

Yeah, I looked at the print run from GG and must have just posted without double-checking district. Thanks for catching that one beef1020. :hail:

After looking at the scans, it would grade more along VF+ - low grade XF. Based on that, only worth about face, but I am like everyone else here who said that they keep all star notes!
