It appears possibly cleaned to me, but it may just be the photo. I would consider this coin in Fine/Cleaned Condition.
Bad idea. You never want to clean a coin, especially when you're cleaning before you know what it's worth.
Because collectors/dealers generally prefer (and pay more for) uncleaned examples. That, and cleaning often damages a coin.
2 Reasons The most important reason is because we are temporary custodians of these wonderful metallic disc pieces of history and as such we should preserve them as best for the next custodian once we sell it or pass on :thumb: AND As some one else already stated, before you cleaned it I would have considered it very close to the $80 value... Now I wouldn't even want to pay the $20 for it.. to me it would only be worth its silver content, no different than if you smacked it flat with a hammer.. most other collector would feel the same
Well, it is your coin. You can rub it, you can paint it blue, you can take a hammer and turn it into a flat disk it ... But in case you ever want or need to sell the coin, be prepared to get less than what you would have got for a "non-altered" piece. Christian
Outstanding! Do not feel too bad, most of us wanted to see our silver coins shiny before we started taking collecting coins seriously
