I would appreciate any thoughts on authenticity and possible grading on this dollar. I attached a larger scan. Hope this helps. Thanks
It looks genuine and VF. BUT, I would not buy it based on those small images, unless the seller is well known, highly respected and offers a full, unconditional return privilege.
ditto... China manufactures these like pezz dispenses candy,, and with all the commerce between us, they have more than ample logistical lanes to come into the U.S.... I question any of these raw, even from a dealer (unless as Mark says, then are of the highest reputation,,, meaning you could post there name in this forum and have 10 replies in a day endorsing him/her).... Unless your a pro, I'd stay away from these in raw condition... get one in a slab, and validate the slab (serial number, etc.) before you buy.
I'll go a step further. Even validating the serial number doesn't cut it these days, since, in addition to coins, so many of the slabs and grading labels have been counterfeited recently. You need to know coins and/or the seller really well.
I agree with Mark Feld on the grading labels being counterfeited. I wouldn't buy a coin like that from an unknown dealer or a dealer without much rep. You have to figure a 1795 Flowing Hair $1 is a pretty expensive coin in that grade.
