I am a coin enthusiast, I love and collect coins as much as the next guy but I am not good at researching the value of coins. My friend Aaron is selling me his coin collection (all are in circulated to extremely circulated condition. However the dates are visible on each and every coin. I quoted him $160 for the lot, he feels they are worth considerably less, I don't want to rip him off and he does not want to rip me off as we are good friends as well as co-workers. Here is the lot of coins. x50 Wheat Pennies (Circulated none less than 1929 & 3 Steel Wheats with zinc tarnishing) 1 1903 Indian Head 1 1837 (Marked G for Good condition IDK) Large Penny 4 Buffalo Nickels all visible dates (1929, 1930, 1935, & 1936) 1 1867 3 Cent Piece visible date but very very well circulated 1 1867 Shield Nickel 1 Well Worn 1943 Walking Liberty Half Dollar (No visible mint mark) 1 1889 Morgan Dollar (No Mint Mark) looks almost uncirculated or very very close. 8 Mercury Dimes Well worn (1941 x2, 1943, 1945, 1939, 1927, 1918 <Very Worn>, & 1924) 1 1912 (Barber?) Dime And Two 1907 Nickels with the "V" Cents on the reverse very worn obverse ------------------- Anyway, how much would you pay for the entire lot considering he is your friend and you both do not want to rip each other off?? (He wanted me to get a second opinion)
I think $160 for that is a bit much, maybe $100-$120 at most & even then its more the silver thats worth while.
Thanks for the tip mat, although now that I remember I had actually quoted him $135 for the set as I went off an approximation of assumtional value. Mind you this was well over 12 hours ago at work I like to be 100% honest. Especially since he was trying to rip himself off, he was saying he felt as though they were only worth around $50. Which is why he wanted me to get a second opinion
I think even mat's number is a bit high. I would not go over $100. Bear in mind that most of what you are describing has little numismatic value and will be nearly impossible to sell for what you paid unless it is in better condition than what you are describing. It would also be nearly impossible to buy it for what you are paying.
Is it possible your friend already researched the coins values online? Like I said, $100 is kinda stretching it. Alot of the worn V Nickels, 3c Nickels, & Buffalo Nickels are about $2 each at the most but do go for much less.
Thank you now I really know and approximation of value. The Large Cent it about $8-20 depending on condition so you are most likely correct guys about the true value
