One More Hole Filled in My Type Set

Very nice. I recently started a Type Set but haven't acquired any of the early half dollars yet.

Okay - going to stick with O-109A. Can't see all the cracks but 109 or 109A.

Yes, this is clearly O-109. Rarity 3 - not too shabby ! Congrats, Kanga !

It's an intermediate die state between O-109 and O-109a. The obverse die crack, starting from the zero clockwise through the 8 then the 1, proceeds to stars 1 through 6 but doesn't seem to make it to star 7. The crack from rim to star 6 is propagating nicely.

Perhaps the other obverse cracks are there as well but can only be seen in hand. I'm beginning to think that's the case, in which case this is a full-blown O-109a. However, I don't see the reverse die crack at all (from edge above E in UNITED, through left wing tip, and top of STATES). In hand inspection may turn it up, eh ?

 

I'm really bullish on Draped Bust 50c. For DB silver, they're the best value; the half dollars were the highest mintage of any DB denomination. DB halves are much less expensive than a comparable quarter or dime.

I got it from (GASP!) eBay.
Normally I would not have done that.
BUT
Three factors suggested that I go ahead.
1. David Lawrence was the seller.
2. CAC sticker.
3. VERY fair price.

 

Thanks. The space of liberty and stars from the rim was what made me settle on it. I could see the crack through the date, but not the other cracks listed. Now with the big clear pictures - yep O-109.

And Kanga - the coins I have seen David Lawrence post have been on ebay and his website. Not sure you have to go through ebay. Nice pickup no matter where you got it.

As I've said before I like to know a coin's attribution if one exists.
But since I'm dealing with a type set (one of each issue), I can't justify buying the book for just the one coin.
Without your help I'd just have to be satisfied with plain ol' 1807.

So, while I have your attention maybe you can do this one for me also.
Is it a single die pair?
But whatever, I'd like to put an Overton number on it.

Sweet Kanga - Looks like a O-106 R-4 beauty of a knobbed 6. Let me do some more checking.

 

Okay - had to go to Heritage. Yep - O-106 R-4 coin. Notice the die line from the right upper corner of the shield. There should be another from the upper arrows to the tail feathers - I think I see it, but a smudge on the slab is perfectly placed to try to hide it. Another beauty Kanga.
