I had three steel stamps made about 6 or 7 years ago with my logo on it for the purpose of striking my own personalized counterstamps. I use them as my "calling card" and trade with other collectors who have any type of personal token of their own (metal, plastic, or any other material, even wooden money). I'd be glad to do the same with any c/t member who's interested. If you don't have your own personal piece, I'll gladly send you one of mine anyway. It's my way of saying "howdy". Just PM me with an address, and I'll get it to you as soon as possible. I'll post pics of the three stamps .... I hope! Bruce
Boy are you ever gonna have folks talking to themselves trying to figure out what those are in the years to come
If so can you tell me what W.D means? the W is much larger than the D and protrudes to the other side of the dime
I look at it as a research opportunity for someone in the future. I have a lot of fun doing it now, and hope somebody else does the same in 50 years or so
WHat no one has blasted him yet? I guess someone will get around to that later. Interesting concept - I have thought about doing the same thing for the fun of it, but doubt if I will ever get around to it.
I do collect counterstamps Dimefreak, have been for a long while. I like the history in them, and research the heck out of the ones I find interesting (that's nearly all of them). Hey AJ! Yeah, were real close to each other. I drive through your town all the time. To answer your question: No, I don't have a store. I love to collect, but really hate to sell anything. Good to meet another Jerseyite.
If you ever come across someone with the counterstamp initials ER, let me know. I have a Large Cent dated 1829 counterstamped three times with these initials.
Bruce, Do you take requests? I assume you are doing the stamping with the die yourself, so could one send you a coin they'd like to have counter-stamped and get it returned with your mark?
Marshall .... "ER" isn't listed in any references I have, but if you can post a pic I'll take a look at it. I can also send it along to Greg Brunk, so he can add it to his counterstamp index. Krispy and Jerseycat10 .... I don't mind stamping someone else's coin if you send it to me. I have to tell you though, these are hammer struck punches I use and if I don't hit it just right, I get a weak, partial, or off-center strike. Generally they come out pretty good, but please send something you wouldn't mind getting "messed up". Better yet, send two coins so I get a second shot. I promise I won't drink that day. I'll p/m both of you with my address.
I'm not going to turn you in but you do know that isn't legal. (Well technically I guess it is legal as long as you don't spend them. It is illegal to circulate US coins with advertising on them.)
Tell that to the election people who stamp "VOTE FOR SO AND SO" in big, bold letters on the front of a dollar bill (or a $100).
Personally I couldn't care less about the Cross Ministry people doing it. The Where's George people were approached and had to stop selling rubber stamps so people could stamp their notes. As for the politicians, I say file complaints and see if you can get the candidate publicly embarrassed. Sounds like a great plan to do to your opponent if you find out his campaign is stamping the notes.
NEW -- B.R.&M.: Counter Stamped coins Here's an update to the thread... I wanted to share what I got in return from Bruce for requesting a few coins be stamped. I think he did a great job with the striking and I've gotten to add some unique counter stamped coins to my novelty counter stamped coin collection. He also sent along a couple of other items with the coins he returned to me, a wooden nickel and brass plate/tag that he also had made up with his personal markings.
