A very interesting & entertaining look into the world of Fine Art collector Dr.Barnes, and his 25 Billion dollar collection virtually stolen by the Philadelphia Big Wigs. Dr.A. Barnes, owner of the Barnes Collection died with no decendents, but with stipulations that his art collection would nver be moved, loaned, or sold. The show can be seen on ShowTime 2 today at 7:15PM and again at 10:15PM. An interesting look into the mega-rich collectors of Fine Art, how Dr Barnes ammassed his collection, and entertaining for collectors in any venue.
Not sure why this topic is in the Paper Money forum. It would be better suited to General Discussion. The fight for the Barnes is a huge corrupt and inept mess of an argument in local Philadelphia politics, the art scene, the greater museum community having banded together against the Barnes (or at least turning their backs on the collection) while the corruption within the charitable Pew organization sunk its teeth into the juicy fruit of this gem collection. This argument has been raging for years and the Barnes collection has now quite nearly been completely taken by the city and entities intended to capture Dr. Barnes' collection. They have easily moved against the terms of his loosely written will and failure to protect against this happening as proponents of Barnes have squandered his legacy by doing too little too late. It's a sad tale. I've seen the documentary film and recommend it to others. For those immediately interested in this check out the Barnes Foundation.org web site to see some of the art he collected, his unique mission and the BIG middle-finger he gave to the social, corporate and political elite of his era and the city of Philadelphia. Barnes was a cantankerous dude. There are not many around like him today nor harboring the personal taste in fine art and culture with a healthy distaste for greed and selfishness. Do check this out if you are curious. Film trailer for THE ART OF THE STEAL on YouTube. There are also some segments of the film and related videos on the fight for the Barnes foundation on YouTube, just follow the film trailer link and look through the right hand column of related videos.
I apologize to my fellow members for posting this thread HERE. I was unaware of a GENERAL DISCUSSION area for subjects "off topic", and will chaulk this one up as a rookie mistake. Once again, I'm sorry.
No worries Steve, I first read your thread and was thinking really hard if there was a PM angel to the Barnes collection... LOL!
no need steve lol Mr barnes ammassed quite a fortune... and thus had to have his own collection of banknotes (possibly with most in the bank, but still) posting the thread here is completely on topic Thanks for the Barnes link Krispy! He had some awsome paintings!!!!
