I found a 1984-D penny and right above the e in liberty is what looked to be a deep jagged scratch. I looked at it in a magnifying glass and it is a row of "D's", 5 of them. Any idea what this is worth? I tried to download a picture but couldn't.
1984-D penny ok I think I managed the attachment, the picture is not the best but above liberty is a colum of 5 D's
look above the word liberty, there are 5 D's on top of each other in a colum like the penny got stuck in the stamper
Whatever it is, it isn't a result of "the penny getting stuck in the stamper". Coins are struck in a die press (an obverse die and a reverse die) at the same time. Errors do occur if the planchet isn't seated properly, or if it gets stuck on the die, or if the dies get loose. What you're seeing may be bag marks or pmd (post mint damage- damage caused after it left the mint), It may look like "D's" but they're not.
I looked, theyare partial impressions not full impressions. it was close. if it was a full impression i am sure it would be
