Coins are killing my wallet right now and I was wondering if anyone know a good starter detector. What brand and style would you suggest? Money is tight so im looking for something between 100 and 200 dollars. My house was built in 1920, so theres no telling what coins are burried here. Ive already found a couple of wheaties laying on the ground. So any info would be great.

    Thanks for your oppinion

Garrett Ace 250 sells for $212. Its a good little detector for starters, all though it drives me crazy with trash.

Check your PM's, I will send you a good place to get advice.

Do you guys have any advice on "pointers?" Those little things that help you pinpoint where the piece of metal is located in the hole you dig? I was thinking about buying a Garrett and one of those pointer things... anyone got a suggestion on where/what brand to get?

Most of my friends use the Garrett pinpointer and they're happy with it. I got myself the Pistolprobe by Detectorpro which I like to use. However, it looks like a gun and is quite long which discourages a lot of people from getting it. It uses pulse induction to locate the target which gives it a range of up to 6" as opposed to 2" by the other units. I really like it but remember, it is double the length of the Garrett.

You might want to visit a local shop that sells detectors.
They sometimes have used machines at a great price.
Folks upgrade and smart MD dealers help them do that.
