    Guys,

What is it worth? I'd grade it at about MS-63 or 64. Very clean, great detail, no wear to speak of, not baggy. The buyer purchased it around 20 years ago for $3,999.95. He wants to sell now so I'm just curious.

    Thanks

MS63 last one to sell on heritage was in 2004 for $20700
MS64 none exist in a PCGS slab so the skys the limit

hope this helps, I have no experience with gold, just lots of experience scouring archives for completed auctions.

Wow. Thanks dude. This is a no BS situation so I thought I'd ignore the books and ask for some real world experience.

no problem...I did a little more research because I couldn't believe it had been 6 years since one sold and I found out that there is only 2 PCGS MS63's with zero higher.......seem to be tough graders on this coin

I held it in my hand today. I nearly wet myself. I was stunned. It's in a flip tossed in with a bunch of Krugerands, Mexican 50 Peso gold pieces, and several common Liberty and St. Gaudens DEs in a plastic bag. I tried to impress upon the owner the potential value of the 1883 CC DE but he just shrugged and said his dad bought a bunch of gold coins in the late 1970s and early 1980s and that it didn't matter all that much to him. He was more interested in the melt price of gold. I know he isn't going to sell it to some numb nuts out to make a buck, but I want him to know what he's got. I want him to send it off for grading.

I am stunned just thinking about this coin. If you have the money make him a fair offer and then send it off to be graded. Opportunities like this do not happen everyday.

Be careful though, the jump in price from MS-60 to MS-63 is huge. The difference being a brand new car.

be careful.... there are also counterfeits... some of them have been around for a long time and are pretty good.
