This auction is not getting much attention... $43 bid so far for a 1909 S VDB. It's "guaranteed authentic" but the seller has barely any feedback and is located in Mexico. I personally am not bidding at all, but what do you think? Fake? Or just an auction that's not getting any attention? http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-1909-S-ONE-LINCOLN-CENT-KEY-DATE-UNC-/220677332385
There is nothing I can see that screams counterfeit to me, but there only one minor marker (offset VDB) that I can make out.
The same seller also has this item: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220677332036 If you scroll down, he actually says it's a coutnerfeit... I guess the bidders missed that, because right now one of them is ready to pay $30 for a fake.
Well, his location means there probably isn't a market for his coins. I mean in order to show them to anyone, he almost HAS to use eBay. The low feedback might mean, he is just starting out with this. I didn't see anything on the 1909 s vdb that seemed an intent to defraud anyone, and he did list the quarter as a "counterfeit" coin. What I am thinking is, that this guy is a collector or someone who bought some collections and is trying to start an on-line coin business. He listed what he thought would be the most marketable items first thinking they would bring him a higher return. I made that mistake too. But, obviously, there probably aren't many US coin collectors in Monterrey, MX. And with the cost of US coins there, I doubt many are joining the club ? I am sorry this ended before I saw it. I already missed the 1988 RDV-006 that sold for $26. Darn it !
Yes i agree, but with the coin selling for 20 times less than its worth is not a smart move, and yes the 88 rdv for 26 buck im mad too I had the bid for the whole listing except for when itcounted. But the wheat cent, i think the vdb looks off to me.
Well, the 1988 was ANACS. The 1909 s is raw. Either the seller has......had a good one and didn't realize just how important it was to get it graded or didn't know how to go about it or the coin is not what he thought it was. I used 1000x on he enlarged pic and agree the weak strike on the reverse didn't look quite right. If I had this one, I would have sent it in. If it indeed was UNC of course, he wins one. But, I got a feeling that in this economy there are getting to be a lot of guys who want to sell some coins to raise cash. Especially inherited stuff. But there are a lot of us who start out without a clue as to how to do it. And we lose a lot learning the proceedure. Heck, I sold complete proof sets for less than the melt value of the half. Trying to save on seller fees by listing for 99c can be a huge mistake. gary
Here's the kind of thing I think should be disallowed by eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/COLLECTION-LOT-OF-12-SILVER-DOLLAR-PRESIDENTIAL-COINS_W0QQitemZ370440102167QQcategoryZ3455QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZe17001.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D6%26pmod%3D380271549158%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5166389369409037275
As a person who has been to Monterrey, MX for the past 16 years i will tell you that they have movies pirated 4 days before they come out in the movies at your movie theaters. IMO i can easily tell its fake. As well with 90% brand name or valuable stuff of the things you buy from Mexico will be pirated.
Let see...the seller has a feedback of 6, he's based out of Mexico, and he's selling an uncertified key date coin that normally retails for well over a thousand dollars...nope, I wouldn't touch that one with a ten foot pole.
I don't inderstand your thinking on this one.. they're tokens, not coins. Absolutely 100% O.K. to sell on eBay.
