Ok, I finally got my Dansco albums and I need a little help before I put one of the 2004 coins in. Does anyone know how to gently remove permanent marker from a coin? I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who marks up collectible coins.

Here's what I did....put a little hairspray on a Q-tip, rubbed gently, rinsed with water and patted dry. Good as new.

Got a pristine '69 D today from one of the tellers while I was picking up change. I did find an absolutely beautiful AU 1941-P Merc in a roll on Monday, too.

In all my excitement yesterday over the halves, I forgot I'd grabbed a roll of quarters from the same bank while there. Remembered them this morning...

Turned out to be an uncirculated roll of 2000 P Virginia quarters. *heh*

Hi newbie here. have been searching for silver in Halfs for a while now. Always like coins but get confused at some of your posts. Like I found a proof in a roll. Is there a place that exsplains some of the abrev or other slang. And if I am searching occasional rolls what should I be looking for other than silver. The best I have found so far are 66 and aboves in the halfs. How ever I did get a shot gun roll at the bank the other day that was full of some very Very good looking bicentennials all 20.
And what do you all do with your finds? Collect, Sell, When do you sell?
Sorry if this is alot for obne post.

Went through one Brinks-sealed box of halves yesterday-found 1 40% Kennedy. I have another box at home and will post that result when finished.

    Congrats on the good finds!

I have an offer right now for $5.75 face for my 40% coins. I just started searching in May and I'm up to just over 400 40%s, with half of those coming in 2 good finds at banks. I had originally planned on holding on to all of the halves I found for 1 year to be able to take a photo, but I'm thinking about selling the 40s to get 1150 bucks out of it and then putting that back into something else or just being happy with making 900 bucks searching and still having the 90s left. Any of you getting better offers than that on 40s?

You're either making a fortune, or getting ripped, not sure which. :) Not sure what you MEANT to say up there.

If you're getting $5.75 for each 40% half dollar, jump all OVER that deal. Silver would need to go above $35 an ounce for them to be worth that much.

If, on the other hand, you're getting 5.75 times face value, or $2.87 for each half dollar, you're getting cheated pretty good imo. At current spot of $23, melt value is $3.40. You're coughing up about 15% there, excessive imo.

Personally, if i was selling today, I'd probably look for $3-$3.20 per half dollar. I might wiggle a LITTLE on that if a trade for something desirable was in the offing.

$5.75 is better than I have been hearing around here. Dealers around here are only willing to pay $2 to $2.50 for 40%. One guy said it was because it cost so much to ship them to the refinery, but that seems like a weak reason. I figured demand was less so it has a lower price.

Went to a bank yesterday for halves, they gave me two (both useless), but told me to come back tomorrow, as they had more in their vault.

So I went back during lunch today, got 590$, 500 in a box and 90 taped in rolls of 10$.

The box looks like it has been looked through, so I have very low hopes for that.

    BUT..

The taped had 4! rolls with all silver edges plus some more! I quickly went though them and:

    Results from the taped:

    89:D! 40%
    8 90% (1964).

I searched a box of half dollars nothing found except for a penny in one of the rolls what a rip!
No banks had any customer rolls today but did pick up 2 40%'s and a 1964 half from teller trays :)
Interesting cent find, I found old unopened bank rolls. I got a 1969-S roll, 4 1973-S rolls and 3 tail/tail rolls.
Should I open the 1969-S roll to look for double dies?

$550 in halves today, no silver but a 72-s, 03-s, and a 76-d that is in great shape. I swear I'm getting someone else's dump, but I ordered $1500 in halves to come in next week.

Man seems like people are hitting the jackpot everywhere... here and on other forums.

I ordered a couple boxes in light of these recent events. One will be ready tomorrow and the other will be ready next Tuesday.

Having the lady pick up a whole bunch from some bank in the middle of nowhere early next week too. We'll see if those pan out, I hope they do.

Well I went ahead and sold 400 of them for 1150. It might be about 40 cents per coin under melt but everyone needs to make a little. This price is much nicer than I was being offered everywhere else and APMEX told me they would give me 3.10 per coin but then i'd have to mail them in and I wouldn't be getting the cash today. I'm sure I could probably get a little bit more but I'm happy with this offer because it's better than it has been for me everywhere else, by far. If silver keeps going I guess I could kick myself.

The bottom line for me is, I've made $950 pure profit from 40% coins, and still have a few rolls of 40s and a bunch of 90s that I haven't cashed in.

It will be interesting to see what kind of lag there is in boxes. IMO most of the box finds are from coinstar machines. Since banks need 500 bucks or more to return them to Dunbar/Brinks, they dont get there that often imo
