Hey Steve! Nice to see you posting again. That's quite a dramatic tear. There was a really dramatic stained gold cert note that I was outbid on recently in an HA auction. I was tracking the lot for a while and contemplating a 'low grade with highly damaged appearance' sub-collection. Your note would have fit right in. Nice pick up. Hope all is well with you.
That is quite a note. I do love the tear though! the tear is so jagged, it looks as if the paper just became so worn, that it split along its weakest point. I think it adds alot of character to an already nice note :thumb:
Thanks guys! Ya I just have been back to school after working full time over the summer and so I have some extra time now. I've missed all you guys on the forum but you should see me posting quite a bit more in the coming weeks! Thanks for the warm welcome back!
Just picked this one up at the bank today. 1934D $20. Has a slight tear on thebottom right though. What do you think, keep or spend?
Well, for me it's hard to part with an older note ... but the condition of that one ruins any premium it would give, so I'd spend it myself.
Agreed. I think I might spend it due to the tear. If it was simply in a Fine condition without the tear I might keep it for the novelty of it and slight premium. I'm still deciding though. Thanks for the input!
what is the plat number on the back? If it's above 670 it would be a narraw 1934D and would probably be a keeper.
I'd keep the 1934D $20, if you dont want it, send it my way Anyhow picked this one up today at collectorama!
Plate number shows 698. I'm not too familiar with the higher plate number, so what type of premium would that bring. BTW, I decided yesterday to keep it!
Not much in the way of paper money at the show today, but I did get myself a Hong Kong $20 bank note in beautiful condition. I paid about retail for it ($4).
Wow, north49guy, can't beat $75 for a 1899 $2! Nice pickup. Also like that 34D $20 from the bank, tear or no. I'd have kept it too. I haven't gotten anything new myself for awhile, but the Baltimore Whitman expo is coming up first wknd of November, I'm hoping I can pick up something cool then.
I can check tonight in my book as I do not have the prices for the Phili notes on my. But for Richmond, the 34d wide in chcu books at 95 while the 34d narrow in chcu books at 200. Don't think the book has prices for any condition less then chcu for the 34d, but as you can see by the price for the chcu notes the 34d narrow brings a premium.
nice addition ikandiggit! i like the designs on Hong Kong notes! The polymer notes have some awsome color contrasts!
I like the polymers as well. I'm going to put a set together of the lower denominations. I'd also like to get a set of the older Queen Elizabeth or King George notes but they aren't cheap!
Yeah, as much as i love the Queen... i am fascinated with coins and currency with the vingettes of past Kings. I dont think i have any notes with his image, but several coins - luckily they can be found for much cheaper!
This is my First Post, I am completely new to collecting. i got these on a random trip to the bank a last weekend. And i also Picked up these on the same trip. seems to be a mis-alignment on Bills 48-49
