I went searching today at the coin star machine,I offered 3 dollars for all the returned coins which may have been 2 dollars in coins from around the world. But I did get a few goodies-->1937 mercy dime, 1951,1960 rossy and one 1964 quarter.

Hence why I specified the condition of "JUST silver hunting". :)

For ME, there's just nothing exciting in a roll of dimes that ISN'T silver. Anything post-64 I have in high grade, the kids aren't working on dimes, they're the most tedious to handle, and on and on. The only interest a modern dime could have would be an error coin, and I'm not knowledgeable OR interested enough to make finding the occasional rarity worth the effort.

Now...granted...I'd LOVE to find a merc in circulation, or a key date or high grade old rosie...but, since they ARE silver, they'll reveal themselves via edge searches.

So..for ME, at least, dime rolls ARE strictly about the silver...thus, the clear wrappers are great.

Now....Hand me a roll of halves, and paper's gonna fly. :)

That's really odd that the box would be sealed, but contain searched rolls. Saw your earlier post about that. I'm a little worried now, since I've got a Brinks box a week on the way. *heh*

Some places (Brinks I know) are rolling in what appears to be shrink-wrap clear plastic tubes. For OUR purposes, advantages/disadvantages discussed above. What benefit they offer to Brinks, banks, or merchants, I have no clue.

Personally, every merchant I know hates the things, because you can't break them over a cabinet/till edge like you could the paper ones. Each roll MUST be torn at an end, then bent, then squeezed. They increase the amount of time it takes to empty a roll into the till by many times...a real annoyance for both cashier AND customer when someone's waiting for their change.

I agree, the fun is in opening each roll, even though I also only look at edges for dimes.

Speaking of dimes, I finally broke my empty streak of about two months (guess they needed time to move out all of the 2010P), and got out of 100$ in dimes:

    64D
    57
    Beat up 41 :smile

Finished the other box of dimes I had on hand this morning, found another silver rosie. (a 60)

That makes $1000 of dimes, 200 rolls, 4 silver dimes found. Right at 1 a box.

My buddy in Florida is getting Brinks boxes and lately some of them have been full of customer wrapped rolls, a few of which have been short. How can Brinks be doing that without counting and re-rolling.

I'm curious how you were able to do that? Did you happen to be there when they were emptying the machine and you offered it to the coin service that picks the coins up?

Well, now, I know that when I get brinks boxes from the bank, I'll often return the customer (me) wrapped rolls in the same box...so i can certainly see a Brinks box having customer rolls in it...

But, obviously, at that point the box is no longer sealed. bobbeth described sealed boxes in that condition. Is that also the case for your buddy in FL?

Yes, for dimes, I only look at the edges, but still prefer the paper as it is more fun for me.

Congrats on the Merc, still looking for my first!

I have now found 46 silver dimes in the past year or so......looking to get to 50 so I can say I found an entire roll....

I'm about to make you guys jealous as heck :)

Walked into one of my bank branches where I have an account to cash a check. While there, asked if they had any halves. Teller says "Yep...got $8.50". I said I'd take them. Then, in the background, drivethrough lady says "What? You want halves?"

    "Yep, sure do!"

"I got 3 rolls, I hate dealing with them. Here."

    "Ok, thanks"

    ==============

Here I am at home...the $8.50 loose are complete blanks. Nothing even remotely interesting...not even a bicen.

Then the first roll...sounds good...WOW...all silver edges!

    And the second...

    And the third...

    Final tally?

    3 Walkers
    5 Franklins
    2 64 Kennedy's
    50 40%ers, including a GORGEOUS 67 and 68D

    JACKPOT, BABY!

    ============

The best part, however, lies in a bit of backstory.

I hold accounts at 2 banks. Let's call them A and B. I'd recently tried to set up A's online banking to allow me to transfer funds to B when i desired. I'd had no luck, with A saying that B's account was "not found".

I spent considerable time on the phone with A this morning...all they could say was it must be B's fault. So, i called B. B did a ton of research, and was able to prove (to me at least) it was definitely not their fault.

So..back to A. A had me jump through a dozen hoops, run around in circles, the works.

We DID, finally, find the problem....and it was with A'S WEBSITE. (They, of course, think it's perfectly normal for you to specify a routing number, VERIFY that routing number as correct, and then on the next page select the SAME routing number from a list of 50 random ones)

Guess which bank sold me the 3 rolls today. :)

I figure given the aggravation this morning...we're about even. *lol*

After my success on Friday I decided to make sure I left in time to hit the same banks on the way home.

Bank 1 where I hit it big on Friday - 8.00 in loose - nothing
    Bank 2 - 10 in loose - 9 40%
Bank 3 - 140 in rolled - 73 40%, 3 solid rolls of 68s and 69s. I would wager that some of these coins are at least mid MS condition
