I got a $1 series 2009 note in change today. Its not in crisp shape. Small folds in 2 of the corners and it isnt flat do to some wallet folds. I know the facsimile signature is of Rosa Rios I think it is. Is this note worth holding on to or just hype? Ive read in coin world twice about this treasurer. Thanks for any help.
The Department of the Treasury shows Annual Production of $1 notes reported for Fiscal Years: FY 2009: 2,636,800,000 $1 notes New bill
2009's are not being found by alot of colledtors, but they are not rare, just not found yet. I believe because of the depressed economy, the notes Krispy show as being printed, are possibly being held until needed.
But remember that fiscal years and series dates are basically uncorrelated. In fact, *none* of the $1's printed in FY2009 were dated 2009. Series 2009 $1's didn't go into production until February 2010, nearly halfway through FY2010. (The BEP's fiscal years run October through September, so we're now in FY2011 as of a few days ago....)
The 2009 $1's are out there, but so far the NEW YORK district is the only district that has STAR notes printed, (APRIL 2010)
Ahhh, great specimens for the star notes! I'm currently looking for new 2009 stars in Unc condition. Keep searching those bills! I've received some 2009's in change, but no stars yet!
Of course, but the numbers still work to illustrate for OP that the Series 2009 doesn't seem to be something one can count on for rarity/scarcity. The numbers were also cited for their readily available use. In the other thread I linked to, "new bill" in my earlier post, I cited a span of fiscal years' printages to help show how many billions of notes there are for recent Series, again as an illustration for an OPs question, not to suggest that a Series of note, say Series 2009 is only printed in that year, or it's fiscal year.
