I was looking at dollar bills I got in change today and I noticed a 2009. I don't think I've seen any 2009s before this so I was just wondering if people have seen these for awhile or if this is new. I'd say 99 percent of the bills I see are 2006 or 2003.
Well the 2009 1 Dollar bill has already made it as far as Thailand. I have 3 of them, a B, an F and an L.
I agree with Derekg & thaivic, I have many of them, including some New York Star notes. I don't see them as often as other years, but they ARE out there.
Let's think about why you see more Series 2003 and 2006 than Series 2009 yet... Hmm, there have been 7 and 4 years worth of issuance for those earlier Series... Printages are huge and Series 2009 are just coming on the scene but certainly there are many, many, many yet held in reserves waiting for banks to order them from the Fed. While I've personally only found one Series 2009 thus far, they are out there. Many are reporting finding Series 2009 and more are certainly to come. The Department of the Treasury shows Annual Production of $1 notes reported for Fiscal Years: FY 2009: 2,636,800,000 $1 notes FY 2008 3,577,600,000 $1 notes FY 2007 4,147,200,000 $1 notes FY 2006 4,512,000,000 $1 notes FY 2005 3,475,200,000 $1 notes FY 2004 4,147,200,000 $1 notes FY 2003 3,699,200,000 $1 notes
I never thought they were rare or anything, but I also hadn't seen some of the 2009 coins yet so I know it takes awhile for them to get around.
I received a 2009 $1, in change, a few weeks ago. It's really nothing special (boring SN, not a star, etc) but was in crisp shape (albeit with a few small imperfections) so I hung onto it. Mainly because it's the first one I've found in circ. I'd wager that within a year or two, the 2009 series bills will be just as common as the '03, '04, and '06 series is, today. So far I've found 2 2009 $20's and 1 2009 $1. I held onto the $1, because it's only a buck (mentioned above) but spent the $20's, as it's kind of hard for me to justify sitting on $40, for bills that really wern't anything spectacular.
It's worth $20 (face) based on the limited information you have provided about your note. Condition is pretty much everything when you can just go buy a fresh stack of notes from a bank and cherry pick notes, and while you were at that, you'd be wise to be picking fancy and low SNs or stars (if any *s are out yet). Dept of the Treasury shows production of $20 notes for: FY 2008: 633,600,000 FY 2009: 716,800,000
I figured that you didn't, but with the prices on ebay some people act like they are. People need that brand new note, and they need it now!
I just seen a 2009 note , like yesterday... (For the first time) or maybe I wasnt looking for any since I dont collect them..
