From this small image i can say it is a possibly South African, possibly gold coin, with lions face on it. For more details, please post a large photo of both sides of the coin.
This will get you started, link below. It looks like there may have been a gold Rand minted but I think that was years ago, another pic will be required for further assistance. :thumb: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coins_of_the_South_African_rand
Is it from the Natura series? Similar to the coin on the far left. http://www.matinmarkka.com/South-Africa-2003-Prestige-Set-Natura-Lion-57575-g-Gold
South Africa issues lots of gold coins (see http://www.samint.co.za/ -> Collector Coins) but that one, hmm. Don't think it is a Natura issue (see Matt's reply) but yes, a more detailed picture (both sides) would help ... Christian
Definitely similar...I found this too: http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/2003naturaproofsets.html Guess it's a 2003 Natura Lion? Looks pretty tough to track down, especially in the USA. Thanks for the input!
Hi I am a bit late, but this morning I looked around for your lion! It definitely seems very similar to the 2003 1 ounce Natura gold coin, but those are R100-coins. Yours is probably the smaller version (1/4 ounce or even smaller?). It makes sense because the head fills the entire coin, while it is not the case with the larger coins. (This lion is on the reverse of the coin.) Regards
