First I want to thank everyone for all the great responses ! I am pretty new here and I am glad I found coin talk. I wanted to post another error I found along with what I believe to a fake 1945.Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.
The 1945 Lincoln Cent looks like it either spent some time in a clothes dryer getting tumbled around or it was spooned. I can't see enough detail in your other photo to see much but the coin looks damaged (i.e., PMD) at 8 o'clocl.
I'm sorry but that is one messed up cent. I can't think of any scenario that would cause that error from the mint. Definately PMD. Sorry
Thanks for the input all. I agree that the 1945 has definitely seen better days ! lol I bought 20$ of rolled wheat pennies from a friend and it was in there. The reason I put it up was I have never heard of a 1945 "metal" penny that was actually real ?? As to the other wheat my first thought was it was damaged PM because there is a small dent next to the damage. The back is kinda funky too..I will try and maybe get a better pic...Thanks again for the feedback.
The 1943 PDS were the only zinc covered steel core penny authorized for circulation. There were a few transition problems where some 1943 cents were struck on bronze and few 1944 cents were struck on steel, but theses are rarities. There are multitudes of fake 1943 bronze cents and fake 1944 steel cents produced and they cause heartaches and heart attacks to those who think they have struck it rich and find out not.
Magnet Easy test would be to see if a magnet attacks it. And my 1st guess was it had spent a week or so rumbling around in a clothes dryer.
