What would you suggest for the best way to accumulate a PCGS graded MS 64 - 66 set of Morgans? I'm looking for one per year.

I've been lucky and found a few through my coin club, and have pretty much cleaned out my local shops. Where should I turn next? eBay? Online sellers? I see PCGS has some listings online next to your online registry. I imagine these are preferred sellers?

    Thanks. :thumb:

I've never tried this, but why don't you browse through the PCGS Registry looking specifically for incomplete sets that haven't received any additions for some time. Maybe the owner has lost interest in the set and might be willing to sell some of them.

Another alternative would be to find some in NGC slabs that are solid for their grade and try to cross them to PCGS.

Morgans are the most commonly available collector coins. Any major show, any number of online dealers, or auction sites will have coins. Heritage, Teletrade, Ebay are the some of hte major auction sites.

If a person is new to coins, I would suggest slowing down and taking some time to learn the basics of grading. The prices tend to go up exponentially from 64 to 65 to 66. The differences tend to be minor, at least to most novices. It can take years to learn the finer points of mint state grading.

Especially for the better dates, and key dates, there are more than a few low end for the grade coins offered for sale. Paying full retail MS65 price for a coin that barely makes the grade can cause financial damage.

If you can get to a major coin show, that might be a big help. That way you can meet dealers in person, see coins in person. There are Morgans at every major show.

If you're unfamiliar with it, I would recommend Heritage Auctions: http://coins.ha.com/c/index.z
Plenty of listings, competitive bidding and unrivaled (IMO) photographs that enable you to grade for yourself in most cases.

I'm putting together a year set in MS63 with at least three coins from each mint... one regular MS, one PL, and one DMPL. I've targeted the "expensive" (It's a relative term...) ones first, and I have the CC's outta the way ('82-'84) and am working on the San Frans now.
