Look here buddy,Im not going to go back and forth with with. If you dont like my thread or what Im discussing, move on!!! You've waste enough of my time time..
Those lines are very common with Lincoln Cents on the outer devices and they are caused by die deterioration and metal flow. They are not trails.
I told you exactly what is going on with this coin. How is that a waste of your time? In the thread I posted a link to above, you were claiming that Coin Talk was a waste because you weren't given an answer quick enough to suit you and now you're claiming it's a waste of your time when you get an answer?! I'm sorry if the answer was not what you wanted to hear. So in other words, you have nothing to back up your claims of having been recognized for submitting trail dies?
Omg.. You seem to have something against me since I first told you I was'nt interested in what you wrote on some other site. Get a life and leave me alone ,I can care less & you need to move on buddy before I get nasty..
1973-D trails The only area I've observed with trails are the words, UNITED,STATES & AMERICA..Mind you the pics arent the best and Im getting kind of lazy here. I will be sending these coins out tomorrow to be analyzed... Then I will update this thread of there decision..
Yes, I have to do that. I am behind in my enforcement quota Throw me into the group that sees deterioration and normal flow from such, not that they matter much to me for collecting. But thats my personal feeling. Everyone can discuss and opinion what they wish as long as it is within "play nice", and this goes for the OP as well. Jim
I'm curious who you are going to submit these to...and if you will publicly apologize here when you find that the people that you are insulting here are right in their assessment. Richard
To get this resolved, you should contact BJ Neff at traildies.com. There is noticeable difference between die trails and deterioration. Here's an example of deterioration. I think it's similar to what you've posted. I have examples of cents, dimes, and foreign coins with the same effect. They are not die trails:
I just might send these coins to BJ...There is more going on then whats you see in the photos,I think one can misjudge based on poor lighting and photos.A while back the experts never heard of a double die with trails..
Good luck with the attribution. For those who aren't aware of trail dies: traildies.com has only existed for 2 years so they wouldn't have a complete listing. The phenomenon of trail dies was only discovered within the last seven years and only recently has there been any interest in it by a small group of collectors. Trail dies have been discovered on coins from several countries dating back to 1869. I, personally have no interest in trail dies but I wouldn't dissuade someone from looking for them for their own enjoyment.
Reading the article that Neff has put on the webpage as well as the same in Authoritative Reference on Lincoln Cents, Wexler and Flynn, 2nd.ed., it seems that die trails and wavy steps are a product of single squeeze hubbing. Evidently, although the mint admits to experimenting with the process only as early as 1986, Neff's site has cents, characterized as results as early as 1981. There is no evidence at all that it was occurring as early as you are presenting, as well as the appearance is not consistent with trails, but is with with deterioration. IMO.
Interesting! Does anyone know if the various foreign mints used a single hubbing process during the indicated time periods?
