That's definitely an error... It's called a cud. A part of the die broke off leaving the strange looking area on the obverse. A very cool find in your change! Not uber valuable ($15-$25) but for a change find... awesome!

That is an EXCELLENT find. A super cud! Notice how the reverse directly opposite the cud (12 o'clock on reverse) is very weakly struck. That is because the corresponding portion of the obverse die broke off and there was not enough pressure from the observe to fully strike up the reverse.

Congrats!! That is definitely a keeper.

Hi, I want to Thank everyone for input, this was the first error I have found (I have some coins that are questionable, I'm holding on to them also-Just in case)...Just got in a little while ago from coin shooting and the oldest found was a 1963 Canadian penny. Did find alot of Quarters (10) oldest was 1967, missed silver by 3 years...
    Til later...

No, not the same coin but the same error. I found it fascinating that the two appeared within a day of each other from two different parts of the country.:)

I check everything I can get my hands on also, I drive my husband nuts for I want to go thru his change before he spends it. I don't know about everyone else but I keep all pre-1982 pennies and wheaties, I know they aren't worth much but hey you never know...

I checked that post, now that is freaky. I do notice that his quarter has more wear, mine if you see it looks like it wasn't long in circulation (sp?). On the reverse side in the word United does the N look like a Double Die? On another forum I'm on someone mentioned it. Also a member there directed me to Cointalk, and I'm Happy that they did.

Thank you DoK U Mint, I feel like I'm walking on clouds with that find. I hear of people finding errors and other great finds I started feeling like are there any of these coins out there. Guess if you wait long enough one comes your way.
