Help please with Italian gold ducat

    I am aware of fakes of these and Beastcoins lists several that have been listed on Ebay recently
    Weighs 3.5g and there appear to be some fine horizontal lines in some of the fields.

    Once the seeds of doubt are planted... Yes, this looks fake. The thing is that vision is as much in the mind (not the same as the brain) as it is in the eye. We do not see the world the way people did 500 years ago. So, these modern forgers do not get it right, like the difference between a woman singing soprano and a man singing falsetto. Same notes, different timbre.

    The epistemology of aesthetics aside, the metal looks cheap and brassy.

    ... but I could be wrong. It would not be the first time and will not be the last...

    The metal actually looks better in real life, the camera / light may have tinted it a little.

    Those fine horizontal lines you mention are one of the indicators that the coin is genuine. They are typically only found of the better struck examples and MS examples like this one -
