I found this when I was little when my dad was stationed in Okinawa, Japan (weird right). I was playing in the sand from a man-made playground on base and just picked it up. If you know, what kind of coin is it? How old is it? And what's it worth?
Penny from Prague, Czech Republic (Czechia). Minted in several versions during the reign of Wenceslas II of Bohemia, and after him. Your particular coin is from the period of Charles IV (1346-1378). Coin diameter 28-30 mm, average weight: 3.08 grams (2.75 to 3.4 g), silver content: 2.49 g. I am not sure if this coin is genuine or a fake, but the info provided above should be correct.
Here's what I think. That sand used to make the playground came from a beach and the coin washed up during a storm. Came from a shipwreck. Kinda romantic aint it?
haha definitely romantic, but how would one be able to see if it's authentic? I probably should go to antiques roadshow >_
haha, yeah local dealer, it's hard to trust those >_> i always think of Tomb Raider where she went in to have that one relic thing evaluated, but she brought a picture of it so they wouldn't steal it
I mentioned Czech Republic to allow easier recognition of the general origin of this coin, i didn't want to say "Principality of Bohemia" to avoid confusion in case OP is not familiar with this area and it's history. For your information, Czechoslovakia does not exist anymore. There is now Czechia (a.k.a. Czech Republic) and Slovakia, both appeared sometime in 1993. Next time check your info before making 1st post in a forum.
