Hi everyone I'm new to this forum, im from Niagara Falls Canada. I'm sort of a coin collector but not really... all I have is pennies from 1940-date, and a bunch of really old ones... these I just found today while looking through my old stuff, One is a Half Penny from 1837 (pictured below) This other one is a royal pain trying to clean, it was so tarnished that I could not see the date... but after a long time of polishing (still am) I could see the date, 1873 on the front is the Canadian parliament building (House of Commons) on the back is a picture of Alexander Mackenzie. (picture below) Can anyone tell me if they are worthless or worth anything? I don't really care as I am not selling them if they are worth something... Thanks
Welcome to the forum, Bjc. Cleaning coins always lowers their value. The darkside experts here should be able to give you an aproximation of their value though. Charlie
hmmmm I guess nobody can tell me anything about these... I guess not many canadian coin guru's browse here...
Howdy BjC - Welcome to the Forum !! Part of the problem for the lack of response is that not that many world coin collectors read this section. I think you'll get a better response in the World and Ancients section. I'll move it there for you
The first one is a Habitant token and depending on its type is worth in that condition between $1-5. Can you post a pic of the other side? The medal aint got much value ($4 for much nicer ones on ebay)
Thank you for moving this to a better section, and thanks for the information. The other side of the half penny is very well worn, barely anything is legible except for a standing figure in the center... and to clarify, the silver item is a medal? or used to be actual currency? thanks
everyone makes a mistake with their coins right when they start and don't know a lot. I think your coins are pretty cool.
Dont know much about it except its a commemorative metal thats part of a series that has the other prime ministers on it. If its made out of silver then its most likley worth melt value. similar one (ebay)
There were 4 banks in Lower Canada (now Quebec) that issued Habitant tokens. This one was issued by the Quebec Bank. All 4 issuing banks had their headquarters in Montreal. Aidan.
