Hey guys, I am leaving in the morning to purchase an album of paper currency and one of the pictures I received shows two banknotes from Portugal. The guy selling this got it from a collector who used to sell/trade/buy on ebay and he labeled everything. What concerns me is that if you look in the picture, above where it says price, it says "copies". Looking at the 4 other pictures I got, that does not appear on any of sleeves and he has some nice notes, older than these two and more valuable like a 1925 Brasil 5 millions reis (sp?). Either way, is this a real copy? Shouldn't it say "copy" on the banknote itself? What about the prices? Who would actually pay or value these banknotes at that much if they were really copies? I contacted the seller right now, so I will await his response but he doesnt know anything about collecting. I really don't want to believe these are copies but the fact that its written on the label worries me. Is there a way to spot a reproduction of a note? Thanks alot to those who chime in .
Yea that's my thought too, but here is a link to someones collection and they have the same exact bill as the top one. Notice his has an image of someones face in the left white oval space and mine just has some blotches or coffee-stain like areas....I doubt a collector would be into copies but still, I am really nervouse because this is a 3 hour drive I am committing myself to and I would hate to lose these two notes. http://www.banknotebank.com/viewnote/919927 Also, I would imagine if someone had a copy of a note, then it would say copy instead of copies. Maybe I am overreacting. By the way would someone be kind enough to look up the prices for both of these in the Kraus Price Guide? My order is still on the way. Thank you guys EDIT: Nevermind I see the outline of that figure right below the coffee stain-like part.
Thanks! I just got back, after driving 3.5 hours each way. I had a lot of trouble at the border (I'm Canadian and this was being sold in US) but eventually they believed my story and let me go reminding me to get a receipt. I'll post what I bought in a different thread in a proper subforum so be on the look out as I definately need help identifying coins, methods of preservation, values, etc. By the way, it turns out he meant duplicates for some bills but he actually had printed images of like 3 of them. Very weird. The above notes have neither duplicates nor do they seem fake so I imagine he must've had more then 1 but not in the album but in the separete sleeves that also came along in the package.
