I believe that coins get poured from rolls into trays. Sometimes these trays are emptied into coin counters, then put back into rolls. Once in a great while, I find a coin that shows no sign of ever being handled at all (no finger print, marks, etc) in a bank roll. I believe I found a 1974 D cent like that in one of last week's boxes.

Also, on occasion, I have found what appeared to be an "unc" in a CWR. Of course, it had to circulate to the person rolling the coins. But I have received new coins from newly opened bank rolls (I saw the roll opened and dumped into the till) that I put into a coin jar and later incorporated into rolls to cash in. Those coins although not exactly un circulated, are certainly MS. And the grading has now gone from AU58+ to MS/

I also think many who say "un circulated" are meaning Mint State ?

But truthfully, there are some very nice coins being found in rolls today.

I need to get back into roll-searching! I currently have 6,000 searched nickels on the floor of my room, in buckets and coffee tins. I also have around 50 bucks in pennies. My how I miss the leisure of searching through coins, and the excitement of finding an old wheat or a silver war nickel!

Grrr, I wish school would just disappear for awhile! :p

    5 boxes this weekend - 4 skunks and 1 box with 1-40%

Also went through 212 dollars of loose/CWR for 3-40%

I think the northeast has to be the worst for having good finds.....my best finds have been from other areas when I'm traveling.

    Inquisitive,

Yes it is amazing. My only whimper is why didn't we start this even 10 years ago? Imagine what we could have found back then. Alas, for the 3 of us, Me, You , and Bob we found over 3000 silver halves in a year. Pretty cool. Though I do feel that is a thing of the past as it has really tailed off lately. I am guessing the high price of silver lately has made a lot of people really pay attention to what they have. You blew us away on the Franklins though.

You are most welcome. Good to have a litte network of colleagues to share with.

Erin (Bob, I was hoping to talk to you after the coin club meeting tonight but I will post it here-read on down)

ARGH!!! LOL OK, Bob, we both went up to 1960 a week or so ago. You west West and I went East. Well, the guy I met up with to trade at the coin club also went up there 2 weeks ago. He had never gone into banks asking for rolls until I told him what we do. He went into one bank and got three rolls...ready to be sick?

    1st roll: 6 BU 1964's, 1 Walker, 13 40%'ers
2nd roll: Get the tissues....ALL 20 BU Mirrored 1963D Franklins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    3rd roll: 20 1966 BU Kennedys.

    I am still crying!!!!

Bob- those should have been ours!!!!!

No use crying over the past, I'd rather be glad with what I know now, and I am happy as well to have our little "club"

Today's results: 1 64, 3 40% 1 NIFC out of about 500$, still want to look for proofs from the fed rolled stuff.

Never tried roll hunting before, but I am planning on starting soon.
A new bank is opening about a mile from my house soon.
Until now, the closest was 4-5 miles.

    Wish me luck!:D

    Well....zoundz.

Just searched 20 rolls of halves. Came out with:

    20 40%-ers, including a GORGEOUS 1968D, AND a single 90%. So, roughly $70 of silver at today's prices.

    :)

    Moonshine ....................

    Did a box of halves last week: 2 NIFC's, 1 90% and 1 40%

I've been dumping the halves either $100 or $200 at a time at my TD Banks. Over the weekend I dumped $100 and the receipt only showed $41. A teller came over and opened the machine and the reject chute was jammed with the rest of my halves and what's in the pic below. At least $10 in quarters plus some foreign coins. I went thru the pennies and pulled 5 wheats.

Hey guys, I'm not really a roll searcher, but I go through change frequently as a part of my job. I found 4 silver dimes today out of those clear rolls from brinks, and a silver quarter too.

I figure I'll share my finds with you guys, if you don't mind.

    Hello,
Did my first roll searching this week. Nothing in $100 worth of dimes, but 6 40% and 1 Franklin in $200 worth of halves. A lot of fun! Josh

First what is a NIFC stand for? Got my first 2 boxes havles today only had time to go through $250 dollars and filled 3 holes but no silver. Think there are alot of coin collectors in
the county where I live. Hope the boxes are better than the rolls I have pick up at the 6 banks in my town.
