The Islamic Wakf that Israel has allowed to control the Temple Mount has been involved in a series of illegal construction projects in this highly politically explosive region of Israel. Without getting into all the politics involved in the Temple Mount, one of the areas of friction has been accusations of the Wakf that they are digging on the mount and intentionally trying to remove evidence of Jewish lineage to the sight. These contentions have been met with substantial evidence, but is denied by the Wakf, as they justify much of the work. That being said, out of the rubble that has been left behind by the construction, several important archeological artificats, and COINS

Unfortunately Islamic "construction projects" near that area have been going on for decades. I have read stories and seen pictures of many archaeological finds that were intentionally destroyed via construction. Many coins have been lost, and We can only imagine what might have been.

Yeah - well in a completely ration world this should be allowed to happen, but there is nothing rational about Middle East politics, especially when it involves, Jews, the Temple Mount and Israel. You can only hope that calmer heads prevail over time and that not everything is destroyed.

Well, it is part and parcel of the politics in the region, so you can only hope that more discoveries are found and that more of the national heritage, if not world heritage, can be unearthed before being destroyed, especially on the Temple Mount and in the City of David. There are other similar hot spots in Eritz Yisroel including Hebron, Tsfat, all through the Judean Hills.

At least they've been able thus far to avoid the utter destruction of the kind that took play at the Iraqi Museum after Desert Storm.
