Hey Guys, Newbie here. I bought 8 unsearched rolls of wheat pennies a couple weeks back and found some good coins in them. I was going through them again last night and came across this one. It's a 1916, and is one that still has a decent amount of orange color shining through. There is a noose-like... I guess they call it a lamination, going around his neck, to the top of coin. When you flip it over, there's another lamination over the same area, but it's shaped differently. On the back, bottom left of the coin there's a small, 1cm long (appx) where it looks like that railroad design was going to start, Here are photos: At no point can you actually feel a dent, or scratch on any of the marks (except for the railroad edge), so I know this a consequence of something that happened during/because of the coining process and/or coinage materials. Not the best lighting in my kitchen, sorry guys! Any info that I don't have? I'm not really a 'pro' at this stuff - just started actually Mitch
That is one of the weirdest looking things I've ever seen. No idea but I had to say that I have a '41 quarter with a lamination and it looks similar but mine isn't as big.
Oh wow - that quarter's great! I'm thinking about buying a few rolls from a website that seems pretty affordable, I just don't know if it's a sham or not. Have you heard anyone talk about MikesCoins before? He used to have en eBay store as well, and what worries me is that it's gone. Only main website now. Very good pricing though. I've been going to the bank and getting 10 rolls of quarters every other day or so, then taking them back and swapping out. I've yet to find ONE quarter pre-65'. Doing the same with Dimes. Haven't found one pre-65. Have found tons of 65's though. I told the teller the other say, 'If you see any rolls that look old I'll take those,' and she said, 'Well they're all newer because we order them right from the federal reserve.' No idea why I wasn't thinking, since I already knew that, as I'm a big anti-fed guy. I need to start looking for some estate sales I guess.
MikesCoins...... a 10 foot pole comes to mind... BU Franklins are XF whizzed, cleaned polished and or all of the above
oh gosh. thats no good then. but if i was just buying to get some cheaper silver strictly to hold silver then i suppose that doesn't really matter, right?
Finding pre-1965 silver is really difficult. Better to just buy the cheap ones, if you really want them. Dimes were also silver until 1964. I've been collecting for a little over a decade and I have yet to find some pre-65 silver in my pocket change or my family's change buckets. Wheat cents, even the random Indian Head cent, but no silver.
