My wife's grandfather recently passed down what I think is an US Mint uncirculated set. It is encased in 2 sealed plastic bags, both marked "United States Mint". At the bottom of one is "Denver Souvenir set". The other says Philadelphia. What puzzles me is the coins in the set.

    1974 quarter
    1975 dime
    1974 half
    1975 penny
and a copper US mint coin

Anyone have any idea of what this is?

    Thanks

I don't know why I didn't see it last night but a simple google search turns up that these are a 1975 Mint Souvenir set. They used 1974 halfs and quarters because there were none of those in 1975.

Correct mmpas, because Bicentennial coinage (all dated 1776-1976) was produced throughout 1975 and 1976. Thus, no 1975 quarters, halves, or dollar coins. Good eye! :)

These are actually two souvenir sets; a '75-P and a '75-D.

Of course there should be a '75 nickel in each set as well.

This is a fairly uncommon date and I'd estimate the mintage at less than 3,000 each. Attrition is fairly high since there is little demand and the large token can sell for a couple bucks.
