Well ,I'm currently the high bidder & I won't let it get out to the public's hands. So $600 is my # and the resv. is not met we will see-
eBay still allows this auction to run. now with 7+ hours left and 14 bids up to $380, reserve not met. So this fake error note hasn't sold in past weeks, and reserves haven't been met, nor the item pulled by eBay after multiple reports. Perhaps the reserve is set so high that no bidder could win this item and it's effectively a (fake) show piece to fill up the sellers listings with active listings. Is there any other explanation...
Man, I hate this. All it does is scare buyers away from legitimate sellers. I mean there are a ton of honest collectors who would like to sell duplicates and stuff, just so they can buy other items. Then all the crooks run everyine off. This sucks !
Gauls me that eBay doesn't respond to collectors complaining about removing these listings, even if the reserve was something astronomical like the national debt and no one was in danger of winning the auction. There's just no place for these listings amongst honest items.
im not the expert here but when someone mentioned a horizontal line, i viewed the larger picture size and noticed a diagonal line right after the last a in america. then i noticed the first thing i thought anyone else would have seen. the shadow after the last a in america is grey (on the real print) while the shadow is closer to black (on the 2 other prints)
Here is the EXACT same note on ebay ending today. Someone needs to stop this guy. http://cgi.ebay.com/US-Paper-Money-2003-1-Incredible-Unique-Error-RARE-/140456969388?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b3e344ac#ht_1450wt_1137 Same serial number also!! Wow what a find!
Only eBay can stop it and since they don't act on reports made to them about the listing it won't end.
do cops care or some other government agency care about this type of thing? fraud defacing currency and counterfieting could be considered against this individual?
This is unfortunate. I have dealt with this seller before. He really should know better. I tried contacting him to let him know it was not genuine but received no response -- even after I told him I would never do business with him again.
I sent him a message as well. I have a feeling ebay already covers its own butt with the policies when you sign up on ebay. As unethical as it may be, ebay is making millions in sellers fees and paypal transactions on all the questionable items.
That is why, one should be very careful when making purchases as this , online . For the most part all of you know how EBAY offers no support for these type of transactions . Buy from a dealer you know and trust or get to know the folks who have been around CT for awhile . BUY , sell or trade here , we now have a classified section , so use it. Build a trusting friendship with folks around here and I bet you won't be dealing with those issues as you may have to with that EBAY . Other than that , buy from the better auction house's , you know who they are . I hate to see folks get taken in by those like this one . If I could , I'd make one of his legs way longer than the other one, and than he will surely have something RARE !
That's just stating the obvious for which I believe this thread demonstrates we are beyond this mutually agreeable concern... And to be realistic about this, no one has YET been taken advantage of by this, YET, unsold, item. As we have been discussing today the point of these listings may be sensational advertising. The seller may be in no violation with eBay policy since he has not made a sale to any one. The seller may have set a super super high reserve to prevent any buyer from acquiring this item, he just doesn't place a stupid starting bid of $32,000,000 so that he actually gets bids and the auction looks authentic, despite the obvious fake note he's presenting in the listing. I'm not trying to side with this seller and as lettow has mentioned the guy is avoiding communication, but eBay hasn't acted on this listing for a few weeks after getting reports about it, so despite his Toolhaus negative and neutral feedback comments, he may have found a loop hole through which to listing such a glaring fake without being shut down. It's still very unfortunate to see such listings amongst honest eBay sellers listings as the attempts at bidding sort of suggest a value range for such a note, which is wholly false and misrepresentative, even if buyer's rationality for prices paid is individualistic and without sound reasoning from one buyer to the next.
I'm going to loop in my thread here, which appears to be a continuation of this saga... http://www.cointalk.com/showthread.php?t=148607&p=1069468#post1069468
