    Hi guys,

I have this French Indo China One Cent dated 1884, this date is not listed in any of my Krause cataloges, they only start at 1885, is this a scarce type or have Krause just not listed it.

Secondly I have a token which at first I thought was Italian dated 1861 but it mentions Alessandria (Alexandria) (Egypt) anyone know what this is and from. 031.jpg 032.jpg

Is it just me or is the second "8" on the 1884 a little misaligned? It looks like it was faked from an 1894 possibly.

Edit: Sorry, just noticed it is not French Indo-China, it is French Cochin-China KM# 3, just shoot me. :)

I haven't seen the other, but looks like a store card to me.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Quite right. Before they consolidated into IndoChine, there were three separate provinces - CochinChine, Annam, and Tonkin. Each had separate coinage under the French authority.

I have an older Krause SCWC and it does not list an 1884, but starts with 1885. Also, blsmothermon, the 1894 is a $20 coin in almost any condition, and maybe $50 like this, so why ruin one to create an unsaleable problem? Maybe there were 1884 issues ... I reserve judgment. Nice coin.

Same with the Alexandria of Egypt (Alessandria d'Eggito); nice coin. Agreed that it is a store card -- advertising -- not a token (good-for). Still, cute.

mmarotta, I left my orginal comment in for honesty's sake, but edited when I found my error. A reading of the whole post would show that.
