1986 Lincoln cent with messed up mint mark

    I was wandering if what I got here is anything or is it nothing? I have my suspicions about the coin. The only shiny part of the back is around the mint mark area. Professional opinions will help. Pictures are as followed 1986d ob.jpg 1986d rev.jpg 1986d.jpg

    It's called zinc rot. The copper plated cents were prone to do that. Welcome to the forums!

    Care to elaborate, or send me to a website that describes such processes? Because I still would have no clue what that is unless explained to me.

    was going to say gas bubble but the link ikandiggit listed makes it look like zinc rot

    It may have started as a ruptured gas bubble. When exposed to air or the environment the zinc begins to deteriorate.
