I am a firm believer that if you write down what your goals are and you see them everyday or every so often at least then you will be able to reach them. I've done this throughout school and other things and am very pleased at what has transpired since I've started. Everyday I would look at the ultimate goal and would align my actions to meet that goal. It helps you to focus on what needs to be done and keeps your mind on the prize.

I think everyone here should take a day or two to think about their collecting goals and post them here. Every so often I will bump the thread and you can check for yourself how you're doing and what still needs to be done. You can post long or short term goals, just as long as they are your true realistic goals. I'll make mine in the next post so as to not clutter the top.

Well if I had to split the long and short...

Short: Own a US gold $5 or $10 piece from the 1700's
    Purchase a MS67+ Gauden (probably going to be a 08 or 28)
Start an IS Type album including gold of circulated coins
Start a set of Bust halves

Long: Complete MS 65+ set of Walkers, 67+ for short set (including proofs)
Complete MS 66+ set of Peace
Complete MS 65+ set of Indian $2.5s and $5s
Finish those sets I will start in the short term

Some strange cutoffs to these but here goes-

    Short:
Pennies 1880-current (maybe minus 1-2 coins)
Dimes 1900-current (maybe minus 1 coin)
    Halves 1916-current
    1896 $1 Educational Note
    1929 National Currency Chico Note

    Long:
    Federal Reserve Notes (San Francisco) from 1914 to current, $1, $2, $5, $10, $20
I could probably split this into 5 different goals and make the first 3 short term.

As long as I have a steady income, I'll just continue doing what I'm doing. None of my collections can really be completed, just added to.

However, I do still want to put together a collection of gold coins from ancient to modern. This was put on the back burner because the money I was going to use is being saved to buy a house.

My immediate goals are to teach a city recreatiion Community Education class in numismatics and to teach a community college Lifelong Learning class in numismatics. I have submitted proposals for both.

At the same time, I am locating coin club shows and commercial shows where I can set up as a dealer to sell my books, coins, etc.

Very seldom have I ever had goals, but that's because I was never really a set collector the way that most think of it anyway. My main goal has always been to learn as much as I can.
