It looks kinda FUNKY compared to my other morgans... If its good what is the going rate for one in this poor condition? Thanks for any info
It looks weird im no expert but i believe i see copper-clad in the rim..try placing a magnet if it sticks it's fake.
Rim looks fine, it's just worn and tarnished from being circulated so heavily. I would grade that poor thing AG3, most TPG's would probably grade it G4-G6. I'm just a sucker for complete rims. As for its legitimacy, I think the overall coin looks OK but the "CC" looks iffy. Wait for opinions from the experts on this forum
I can't see anything that makes me think it isn't real, but weigh it. If the weight is right then it probably is real.
I have never seen a Morgan with that much wear. Being a CC, which has been a collectible forever, I wonder how it was circulated for so long ?
With that much wear on the coin, how much lighter do you think the coin should be to be "reasonable" and legitimate?
There are a few western states that actually used the Morgan quite a lot in everyday commerce. Banks in Montana ordered more bags of Morgan dollars than anywhere else in the country. Even today, Montanans at local flea markets and auctions go wild for Morgans in any condition. It's no surprise that this CC is heavily worn. I have an 1893-CC that is in similar condition. Chris
