About
My son and I started collecting Commemorative quarters in 2007, we started with the Vancouver 2010 quarters. Then Canada day 2012 we became more serious, after I paid off my mortgage. I had extra money and was watching the coin show on Canada's shopping Channel. I ended up buying the proof/specimen year sets at issue price, along with a 3 coin commemorative silver set.
Now I was hooked, we collect large pennies (a Favorite) silver nclt and Pre 1990's circulation coins. I'm very fond of Vicky coinage! I do collect older british coinage, when it catches my eye. I enjoy the history behind coins and i use it to teach my son. I have learned a tremendous lot reading different forums. So I've decided to trim the dead wood from my collection, as I'm better focused now.
I've always collected something from a kid. I still have my 1954/1973 dollar bills I had saved. I would collect for a while and then forget it. Now it has become my main hobby, due to a chronic pain condition preventing me from being active. Coin collecting helps to fill in social gaps.
We moved in 2004 from Edmonton,Alberta,Canada to be close to the Rocky Mountains and for a smaller community to raise my son. We are 3 hrs W. of Edmonton, which is the provincial capital. So we don't have access to any coin dealers locally. So I buy from the Royal Canadian Mint/Canada Post/eBay, and a couple of Canada's larger dealers. I dislike the fact shipping in Canada is way overpriced. However, I realize I save on transportation costs and don't need to leave the house.
So this is a wee bit about us and our collecting choices. I look forward to furthering my coin education and chatting with members.Interact
