Collecting since 8 years old, when I was given an 1829 Large Cent, by my Father.
He was an electrician/lineman & found it in an old Fuse Box. I have it to this day.
The moniker "Ole_GMG3", derived from being one of the last 8"/55 cal. Gunnner's Mates. I was on the USS Newport News ( CA-148 - Heavy Cruiser ), out of Norfolk VA.
My range of Collecting is extensive but half dollars captured me early. I heeded the call of the WLHs, Barbers, even Kennedys & especially Franklins. Even the Seateds & Capped Busts, have tempted me from time to time.
SLQs held me hostage for awhile, until I offered a Dealer a chance at a unique SLQ error, 1917-S T-1 Broken Planchet (caused by micro-bubbles in the planchet ). He ignored the opportunity, so I sent it to a major auction house.
I still love SLQ's but I won't be doing business with him or recommend other do.
I go back to the days of the local coin shop having bid boards, starting an auction at a penny. Of hustling food & drinks, at a local coin show for "tips".
Yes, I pushed cents & nickels into a Whitman folder, hopefully like others have, to start collecting. I've tried to pique others interest in numismatics, at every opportunity. It's the only hobby in the world where, if you spend all your money, you STILL have money !
Good Luck Hunting !!Interact
