My Stepfather, great guy, was a "collector" (i.e., hoarder) of things, including adding to the hoard of coins his Dad "collected", and passed down to him. Bottom line, tons of coins, some organized, like the silver, most, unorganized, the nickles and pennies. Dates ranged from a 1804 half cent into 1982, Every denomination, and he was an avid roll checker. Well, to cut to the chase, He left them to me. I organized the silver with some I amassed to pass down, nice, love those standing Libs, and Mercury dimes, gotta say.
Arghh, now, those freakin pennies. Loose, except for three mint rolls, 59 d, 80, and 81. The only reason he had the 80 and 81 rolls, he purchased new, at the time, was because he was "quittin, bad enough they went clad with silver, now they're messin with Abe, gone Zincoln! Those 80, and 81s might be worth whatever, some day....." I put the cloth bank looking bag in with the boxes and bags of loose pennies (cigar boxes and the ilk), stuck them in the closet, no time for them, gonna do list. Some day....I'm not a collector, per say, ciger boxer maybe, looking for that 1943 copper like everyone else. But, Pop? He knew more, threw key daters in, including errors and funky strikes.. Insane..
"Dad", says my daughter. "You gotta organize those pennies too! Got kids, I'll never get to them, must be 80 pounds. Do them like the silver...love you, I 'm grateful, buuuut, geeze, a ton of old pennies....then, give em to me, OK?
So, green as they get, I!m dealing with it. I'm devoted to growing heirloom tomatoes, and playing some guitar, as interests..Not a web guy, not really. Got an ipad...hmmmm, coin collectors....I'll do a search..
Crazy out there! Hard to post! Pictures! Frustrating, but Fred sez, take it to cointalk....Stuff posts! So, bear with me, I!m navagating, Not daily, but, enough. Seems some appreciate sharing a look at this cache..So, here's to everyone, Lincolns, and some nickles to boot...Army Vet, Nam era, Helicopter unit, I did take a short metalurgy course..Had to understand the problem of "dissimular metal reaction" as an airframe repairman..Could be handy..hey?
